We are Craig and Robyn Hankins, between us we have 4 beautiful children and a myriad of animals ranging from a hamster named Basil to a lurcher – or as we like to say – a 30 mile an hour couch potato named Banjo, and many more!
Our family are wholeheartedly outdoor people and are far happier when outdoors … most of the time except when our 2-year-old can prove us wrong! We are passionate about passing on our love of the outdoors to not only our own children but to every one we meet.
Craig has been in scouting his whole life and is still a leader to this day and myself the same in girl guiding, this is just one of the ways we are able to give back to our local community and help to encourage the next generation to care for our natural world as we do. We hope in the near future to be able to connect with the local schools and begin working alongside them to continue passing on our love of the natural world to as many people as we can.
One of our aims is to help people to be able to live a more sustainable life, we teach the skills needed to be more self-sufficient and in doing so can help to lower the carbon footprint of our students should they choose to continue to use the skills we pass to them. We believe that one person can truly make a difference when it comes to helping the environment. The earth needs us now more then ever to change our habits to ensure our future and the future of our children and grandchildren.
Another driving force for us to encourage more people to reconnect with nature is mental health. There is so much research and evidence that proves being in nature improves mental health, and from a personal view I know this to be true. It isn’t a coincidence that mental health is at an all time high when as a species we spend less time outdoors and ‘screen free’ then ever, and as sad as it is, too many people have forgotten how to really connect with nature and reap its benefits without damaging it in some way.
I will be writing up weekly blogs on varying subjects surrounding bushcraft, environment, self-sufficiency, mental health and more so be sure to check back here for new posts.
We hope to see you soon on one of our courses!
